Joseph Pilates was born in Germany in the late 1800’s. As a child he suffered from a number of serious illnesses. Through living with these illnesses, he was determined to rebuild his body strength, and using elements of a number of exercise and sporting methods, he developed his technique which he called ‘Contrology’. He believed that this method would develop the body uniformly, correcting wrong postures, restore physical vitality, invigorate the mind and elevate the spirit. This was proved through the people he worked with. Starting with rehabilitating soldiers during his internment in World War One and later in his life, after emigrating to America in the 1920’s. There, he worked with injured ballet dancers and boxers to restore them to health.
He firmly believed, that this method, that only became known as Pilates after his death, would eventually become popular worldwide, and so his predication was true.
Pilates has certainly stood the test of time and continues to be a popular method for celebrities and sports professionals as well as the general public.

Pilates can help improve the following:
- Posture
- Balance
- Muscle strength
- Bone Strength
- Joint Mobility
- Coordination
- Back and Neck Pain
It can also be beneficial in assisting in relaxation, breathing and overall body awareness.

Classes
I offer both online and face-to-face group mat and private sessions. For both I always suggest an introductory assessment first. This gives me the chance to see how you move and gives you the chance to see how I teach and the style of Pilates that I teach.
Group Mat Classes
My group mat classes offer an overall body workout in a small and friendly environment.
They blend the benefits of Pilates with my ‘Slings’ training so offer you the best of both worlds for your body’s movement requirements.
The classes vary from week to week and aim to bring a progressive challenge to you and your body with the use of small equipment, all of which is provided for you. All you need to bring is a mat! It is important that you work at a level that is right for you, so variations can be given and alternatives depending on your needs.
Group classes also give you a regular session to help keep you motivated if that is something you need and gives you the chance to chat and get to know others in class if you would like to.
The classes run as a block of six which you pay for in advance, but there is the option to catch up in a different class if you miss one from your block.
Private Sessions
Private sessions are great if you prefer a more specific workout tailored to your needs and if you prefer not to workout in a group environment. Exercises can then be given to you for practice at home if you want to do a bit of work in between sessions.
These sessions give you the chance to have the focus just on you and your body’s needs; it can be a slow focused session to help understand any specific movement patterns or restrictions you might have, or can offer a more challenging workout if this is what you want. These can be booked as a block or as you want one.
Private sessions can also be a good starting point if you are completely new to Pilates and feel you want to understand the concept and your body better before you venture into a group class.
Some clients from group classes like to have a private session every now and then, which might help them to bring more focus or understanding into their weekly group sessions.
Private sessions are available Monday to Thursday by appointment.
Client Workshops
I also offer additional workshops to existing clients for a more focused and longer workout. These can be great to give us more time to work on the body. I run regular workshops focusing on the body’s fascial tissue to help stimulate and hydrate the fascial tissue in the body, before going onto a more fluid movement session. I also run workshops focusing on specific areas of the body, such as Hands & Feet or Breathing. These workshops are always popular and book up quickly so you need to be quick if you do want to attend. All are booked on a first come first served basis.
For costs for introductory assessments, group classes and for private sessions or for any other questions, please get in touch.
